This hyperlink demonstrates the technique I have used throughout the book. These are the first few entries in the first chapter.
CHAPTER 1
THERE IS ONE GOD AND HE CANNOT HAVE A SON
IN THE NAME OF GOD THE COMPASSIONATE THE MERCIFUL
Throughout the Koran, Mohammed reminds us dozens of times that there is only
one God and tells us in eighteen places that God cannot have a son.
Specifically this means that there can be no Trinity as most Christians
believe. In most places, Mohammed repeats the same phrase, "God is One." But
occasionally there are variations, some of which we shall now look at.
Since the concepts of One God and No Son are frequently intertwined in the
Koran, I have opted to collect those sayings into this one chapter. Where
there is clear agreement or disagreement in the Bible, I shall quote that
passage in the appropriate spot.
Koran 73:8-9 -- Remember the name of your Lord and dedicate yourself to him
utterly. He is the Lord of the East and of the West: there is no god but
Him.
Exodus 20:2 -- You shall not have other gods besides me. (This is the
second of the Ten Commandments given Moses on Mt. Sinai/Horeb.)
Mark 12:28-29 -- One of the scribes, when he came forward and heard them
disputing and saw how well he (Jesus) had answered them, asked him, "Which
is the first of all the commandments?" Jesus replied, "Hear, O Israel! The
Lord our God is Lord alone!"
Koran 38:7 -- "We have not heard of this (monotheism) in the Christian
faith. It is nothing but a false invention. Was the Word revealed to him
(Jesus) alone among us?" (Mohammed implies here that Christians in
"worshiping" the Trinity do not believe in monotheism.)
John 14:6 -- Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one
comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, then you will also
know my Father. From now on you do know him and have seen him."
1 Corinthians 8:4b-6 -- (Paul writing to the church in Corinth) There is no
God but one.
1 Timothy 2:5 -- (Paul writing pastoral instructions to Timothy) For there
is one God and one mediator between God and the human race, Christ Jesus,
himself human, who gave himself as ransom for all.
Koran 57:3 -- He is the First and the Last, the Visible and the Unseen.
Revelation 21:6 -- (Jesus speaking in John’s vision) I am the Alpha and
the Omega, the beginning and the end.
Koran 4:171,173 --The Messiah, Jesus the son of Mary, was no more than God’s
apostle...So believe in God and His apostles and do not say "Three." God is
but one God. God forbid that He should have a son.
Colossians 1:15, 19-20a -- (Paul writing to the church in Colossae) He
(Jesus) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.
For in him all the fullness (of the deity) was pleased to dwell, and through
him to reconcile all things for him. (Most Christians believe that God was
in Jesus, so they do not believe that they are worshiping more than one
God.)
Luke 4:21-22 -- After all the people had been baptized and Jesus also had
been baptized and was praying, heaven was opened and the holy Spirit
descended upon him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven,
"You are my beloved Son; with whom I am well pleased."
John 1:1-3 -- In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and
the Word was God. He (Jesus) was in the beginning with God. All things came
to be through him, and without him nothing came to be.
Matthew 16:15-17 -- He (Jesus) said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"
Simon Peter said in reply, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God."
Koran 59:23 -- He is God, besides whom there is no other deity. He is the
Sovereign Lord, the Holy One, the Giver of Peace, the Keeper of Faith; the
Guardian, the Mighty One, the All-powerful, the Most High! Exalted be He
above their idols. He is God, the Creator, the Originator, the Modeler. He
is the Mighty, the Wise One. His are the most gracious names.
